Well, this is my first attempt at blogging...so we will see how it goes! I can't figure out how to make my header pic smaller or how to put images after what I type yet, but all in good time!
I definitely need a place to rant and to catch up with everyone! So let me catch ya all up....we are currently in the process of selling our house, most of our rental properties & some of our land near the blue ridge; while buying a new house and packing up the old one. Did I mention, that while all of this is going on, we still have two demanding kids to take care of!
Fortunately, things are looking better than they did last week! The people who were supposed to rent our current house, AND the person who was supposed to rent the apartment over our new house's garage both backed out, AND the appraisal on our new house came in low....you know it's bad when even Lenny starts getting stressed about a real estate deal! However, it is beginning to look like all the "bad" stuff happened for a reason. We got a contract on our current house this weekend, so we won't have to worry about renting it, and we got a corrected appraisal on the new house! This means we don't have to be in a rush to rent out the apartment over the garage...so we are crisis free again! I know this will all be worth it when we are in our new house on the lake, but OMG, I am EXHAUSTED!
Other than all that stress, we are all doing great! Gunner, now almost 3 1/2, is going to be going to preschool 3 mornings a week starting in September and is an absolute pill. We are convinced his future lies in the dramatic arts based on his desire to watch his reflection and make a huge deal out of just about everything. He amazes me everyday with what he has learned...he knows all his letters, upper & lowercase and all of his letter sounds, so we have started sounding out words and he actually read some "at" and "ap" words (hat, rat, nap) all by himself. He can count to 30 in English and 10 in Spanish (he taught himself after seeing it on Diego!). Now, lest I be accused of being one of those braggy moms ( I can't help it, I just luv 'em), I WILL admit that his coordination needs some work. I am stocked up on band aids and bactine for all his minor accidents, which he has frequently. Maybe he knows he is accident prone and that is why he remains so darn cautious about everything (i.e. I finally got him to let go of my hands and doggy paddle in the pool with a floaty yesterday..this is progress from him clutching to me like a drowning victim every other visit to the pool). Hudson seems a little more fearless, he just crawls right into everything...including the ocean if I allowed him! He is crawling, standing up and creeping, but not interested in walking on his own just yet. I can't believe he will be a year old next month!! I feel like I missed him being a baby.
We have managed to fit in some fun this summer. Lenny had 2 weeks off in between jobs, so we did a lot of local stuff with the kids and a lot of beach time. I also have been carving out some girls nights and time for my book club dinners.
I had to get used to having both kids, all day everyday, without the 2 mornings of preschool for Gunner this summer, which was something of an adjustment. Needless to say, we have been to every available museum and park, because we all get cranky if we are stuck in the house all day together! Our favorite so far has been the "Little Builders" exhibit at the aquarium because even Hudson could enjoy it as you can see from the pictures!
A question for you Moms of two out there...how do you negotiate the naps of the smaller one with going out to do activities for the older one...I am currently struggling and feel like I am always rushing to get somewhere or get home before someone has an "I'm tired" or "I'm hungry" meltdown!
